Haikus and Interviews..the end of the first week!

Hi there!

Yesterday, Russ had an interview with Univ Of AL(UAB) and it went well. We now wait on the red tape! He has some other interviews coming up and so continue to pray. I have a meeting next week for hopefully some freelance work here!

Jason finished his first week with a good report. He made an A on his spelling and even wrote a "HAIKU". Here it is

He likes Haiku poetry! Russ is teaching him music this week and will do that once a week with him. That will be his contribution to homeschooling even when he starts to work!

We are spending the weekend with Cathy and Mike. Get to see our "babies".....Having a "soup night" tonight with family! There is snow predicted! Better plan on EVERYTHING being shut down even with flurries....These Southerners! (oops...im one of those!)

Be praying as we go tomorrow(Saturday)to buy a car! We need it! My brother got us hooked up with a guy he knows at a dealership.

Also, I guess you've heard about the Church burnings here. Pray that they find the culprit! They arent near here..the chickens go out to the country where there arent a lot of people around to catch them.

Signing out for the weekend..Im sure next week will bring new adventures!

We Used a Restroom In a CVS!!!

Well, today a new thing that Lisa had not experienced in 20+ years....asking a clerk at CVS if they had a restroom and in her sweet soft southern voice..."why yes dear...it is riiiiight thar in the back !" I couldnt believe it..no dirty looks..no saying "this is not for customers!" IN A DRUG STORE!!! wow!

Went to the bank to open up an account and they too were extra nice...."anytihng we can do for you Mrs Rose, Mr Rose...anything!! WOW!!! (can you add a few zeros to that account balance..ok so there ARE limits!!)

Jason had a good day today. He woke up with a good attitude and even said he liked school today! WOW! We rewarded him with a drive over to see our cats at Aunt Cathys!

Today, we are feeling more rested than the last 2 weeks! It is great. We have actually been going to bed at 930pm every night....that is a first!

Tonight we will visit Double Oak Community Church not too far away from us for their Wed night Bible Study...very laid back church....I knew when Russ saw on Sunday that everyone was wearing casual clothes that we might like it....NO going and buying "churchy clothes" PRAISE GOD!

Well, things are just very laid back..what can I say...

We are going car shopping this weekend! Pray about that!

The Melt Down came Today!

Well....we were wondering when it would happen...and well...Jason had HIS meltdown today...in fact 5 minutes into school . I asked him to do a paper over and he got mad and threw a "hissy fit" as they say down South! If you know what that means..you know how big it was! Well, he flailed and yelled and cried etc etc etc (all the things you do in a hissy fit) and so we had our usual time out and talk afterwards. Today he realized that this is not a vacation! Poor fellow! Pray for him today!

Otherwise, it seems that we landed in the Twilight Zone as far as phones are concerned! We will be getting phone service in 5-7 days! Not TOO bad!

Russ has an interview with University of Alabama in Birmingham(UAB)on Thursday as an Animal Caretaker for the Science Dept. The rats are used for medical research and Russ would be the caretaker. Great benefits, free tuition for Russ and 1/2 off for Jason!!! YEA!! That would be nice. He would have to be at work at 7am each day and get off at 4pm. That wont be too bad!
He has some other leads as well. Please pray. That is my weak area..trusting the Lord to provide even though He ALWAYS does!

First Day of School and Things We dont miss about NYC

Today was a good day for Jason and Lisa. They got up and got to working from 9-2pm. Jason really got into learning about Frederick Douglas since it is Black History Month! He is going to write his first book report this week! Afterwards, we drove over in the pouring rain to Lisas sisters and played with our cats! Chloe is still anti social but has now climbed down the stairs and is hiding under the couch! She is warming up to them!

Things we dont miss about NYC and LOVE about AL!!!!

1. We dont miss going to the laundromat! We have washed 10 loads of clothes and not left the house! The most we have to do is walk up and down the stairs...boohoo! We will be saving about $80 a month!

2. Driving a car.....lovin it! Our friend has loaned her car to us for the week so that we can get around and do some errands. YEA!!

3. People are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO polite here!! It is amazing. Went to get a prescription filled and she was so helpful in getting it transferred to AL...NO MORE RUDE PHARMACISTS!

Our Journey to Alabama

As with any move, there are always glitches but little did we expect to have so many. "Something" was trying to keep us from getting here but we made it...exhausted..but made it.

Most of you know that we were trying to leave on Tuesday, the 31st. Well, that didnt happen! We didnt realize that we had so much "stuff" and by 1am on the streets of East Harlem, we were going through and begging people to take things! It was hilarious!

We had rented a mini van and bought a Dodge Caravan(used) to bring us here so we loaded them to the hilt with our things, Jason and the cats! It was like the Beverly Hillbillies goes to ALABAMA!

We ended up leaving on Wednesday afternoon....we got to Hershey PA and the car was sputtering a bit! We decided to stay overnight there...thinking it was a car that hadn't been used in a while and needed to rest! So, the cats, Jason and me and Russ ended up in a hotel room, eating pizza and going to bed early....we got up early the next morning and everything was going well until about an hour and half into the trip..the Dodge started sputtering again....then started knocking and so Russ traded with me and drove it off the interstate in Mechanicsburg, WV and it died in a parking lot of one of those lotto places that the south has(you..looks like a little house but inside all kinds of seedy people). We called AAA and they came and towed us to a mechanic and he gave us the devastating news. The oil well had cracked(a rock or something had busted it on the trip) and drained all the oil out and burned out the engine! So we were in a pickle.

They suggested we get a rental and it took forever to find one that went one way...when we did, we unloaded the Dodge, left it for scrap and reloaded the new minnvan. At 330pm on Thursday, we still had 12 hours to go....so we drove and drove and drove and ......... At 10pm , we just couldnt make it anymore and so we stayed just east of Knoxville and for the next 6 hours we all slept and got up EARLY to drive the remaining 4 hours to Bham! We made it, unloaded vans at 2 places and took the cars to the airport! Phew! We were exhausted!!!

We are now at Beverly and Jims and will be here for a while. The cats are at my sisters...we hear that Cassie has made herself at home and sleeping on my brother in laws head at night and Chloe is being her usual anti social self and hiding. What can we say...our personalitys stay the same no matter where we are!

Jason is okay. He has been biking and scootering around the neighborhood and enjoying the dogs that live here. He is about to BLOW though...he has been acting out some but we expected that! PRAY FOR HIM

Russ is going to be hitting the pavement tomorrow..ok...the phones...and getting some interviews set up.

Lisa will be starting to homeschool Jason tomorrow. This will be interesting.

For now....

PRAY:

1. For Russ to find a job IMMEDIATELY
2. For us to find a good car to get us around for a while
3. For Jasons transition to homeschooling and this new area
4. For Lisa to get over a bad cold that she has had this weekend. Russ and Jason are on the tail end of theirs
5. For financial provision
